Drillmec Wins New Contract - Sept 30th 2009
Closely following its recent expansion offshore the Congo and the supply of onshore rigs for the Val d'Agri field in Italy, Hendra's business partner Drillmec has just won a major new contract from Saipem to supply oil drilling equipment for use in Kazakhstan. The contract, worth more than €100 million, involves building and testing two oil drill rigs, each of 3,000HP.
The rigs are to be sited on artificial islands in Kazakhstan and form part of the development of the Kashagan oil field - an area characterized by a harsh climate and subject to tight environmental controls. Drillmec has designed the rigs specifically to function under these challenging conditions. Delivery of both rigs is scheduled to be within the next twelve months and construction is taking place at the Drillmec site at Podenzano, Italy.
The contract underlines Drillmec's continued ability to push forward despite the economic downturn.
Drillmec Expands - Sept 23rd 2009
Hendra is pleased to report that one of its major business partners, Drillmec, is looking beyond the current downturn and investing in the future. In an interview last week with Offshore Engineer, Marco Cercato, Drillmec's Business Development Manager, explained that his company had already begun operations with one of its HH series rigs offshore the Congo and was in talks with a European company over possible barge-based work offshore Tunisia.
"We're also talking about work in Lake Albert in Uganda and about operations on a new drillship which is being fitted out for intervention in deep waters," Cercato confirmed.
Equally exciting is Drillmec's investment in a new HH series drilling rig training simulator in Houston, due to be completed by the end of the year. This follows on from the establishment of a centre in Piacenza, Italy, which should be operational by the end of October.
"The system uses the same software as we have on our rig and the same hardware as we have on the drilling console. It has a screen so we can project information as if on a real hydraulic rig," Cercato explained, adding, "It will take about four weeks to train a drilling operator on the HH series system".
Cercato sees the new training facilities as the key to future success. "A lot of people will move away from the industry during the recession and when the downturn ends new people will be needed," he said. "When this happens we will be ready to train them".
Hendra Sponsors Brain Tumour Charity - Sept 15th 2009
Today, brain tumours are the leading cancer-killer among children and young adults, with the average life expectancy after diagnosis being just 15 months. In the Netherlands alone 1500 people die every year from cancerous brain tumours - that's more than four per day.
To raise money for urgently-needed research into treatments for the disease, a team of sporty individuals will be using kickbikes (known as scooters in the UK), fuelled only by muscle power, to scoot up the Alpe d'Huez, in the French Alps. Hendra is delighted to be a major sponsor of this initiative.
The ascent, which rises to 1800 metres at its pinnacle and is one of the most challenging stages of the Tour de France, is the inspiration of Steppen Tegen Kanker - Kickbikes against Cancer. It is due to take place in August 2010. All funds raised through this project will go to the organisation www.STOPhersentumoren.nl, a Dutch charity that finances research into cures for brain tumours. Expansion of Hendra Algeria - Jul. 6th 2009
Hendra is delighted to announce the addition of two important new team members at Hendra Algeria. Amar Haddadou was appointed General Manager with effect from 1st July 2009 and is now directing operations from our brand new offices in Hassi Messaoud. Amar graduated from the University of Texas in 1980 with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and has worked in the Algerian Oil Industry ever since, holding key posts in both ENTP and Sonatrach. His extensive experience makes him the ideal candidate to take over Hendra's prestigious Algerian offices.
Amar confirmed : 'I am very excited to have joined the team. My knowledge of the Algerian Oil Industry will enable me to play a significant role in Hendra's business strategy for the region.'
Amar is assisted by Business Development Manager, Salim Iglouli, who will be seeking to extend Hendra's Algerian market share by forming new links and consolidating existing contacts. Salim studied at the reputed Bourmedes University in Algeria, graduating in 2003. Although just 30 years old, he has already accrued valuable experience in the industry as Head of Purchasing Engineers at ENAFOR.
'I really welcome this new challenge,' said Salim enthusiastically. 'It's a great opportunity for me. I am determined to develop Hendra's business in Algeria.'
These two appointments confirm Hendra's commitment to becoming a major supplier of parts and products to the Algerian Oil Industry.
